How to watch YouTube without interruptions on Chrome

On desktop you have the most options of any platform. Here are the ones that hold up, starting with the one that requires no extension at all.

Option 1: A web player, no extension required

If you would rather not install anything into your browser - on a work machine, a managed device, or just on principle - a web player is the simplest route.

  1. Copy the YouTube video URL from the address bar.
  2. Open skipads.site in a new tab.
  3. Paste it into the box and press Watch Video.

The video plays on a clean page through YouTube's own player: no recommendation sidebar, no autoplay pulling you into the next thing. Nothing is installed, and nothing about youtube.com is modified.

Option 2: YouTube Premium

Covers every device you are signed in on, adds background playback and downloads, and routes a share of what you pay to the creators you watch. It is the only option that is guaranteed not to break.

Option 3: Content-blocking extensions

The most common approach on desktop. Worth knowing the trade-offs: the Chrome extension platform's move to Manifest V3 changed what blocking extensions can do, and effectiveness on YouTube specifically shifts over time as both sides adjust. Extensions also see everything you browse, so it is worth checking who maintains one before installing it.

Why a clean page helps beyond the interruptions

Most of what pulls attention on a YouTube watch page is not the ads - it is the sidebar of recommendations, the next-video autoplay, and the endless scroll below. A player page with none of that attached is a different experience even when nothing is being blocked. It is particularly useful for long-form video, music, documentaries, and for sharing a screen in a meeting or a classroom.
