Frequently asked questions
What SkipAds is, how it plays video, and what it does with your data.
Do I need an account to use SkipAds?
No. Paste a YouTube link and it plays. Signing in with Google is entirely optional and only unlocks your subscription feed and synced playlists - everything else works signed out.
How does SkipAds play videos?
Through YouTube's own player. The video is served by YouTube and counted by YouTube. Playing it on a clean page simply carries fewer interruptions than the youtube.com watch page does.
Is SkipAds a browser extension or an ad blocker?
Neither. There is nothing to install, and SkipAds does not inject scripts into youtube.com, modify any page on it, or alter YouTube's video streams. It is a website with a player on it.
Do creators still get credit when I watch here?
Yes. Playback runs through YouTube's own player, so views and watch time are still counted by YouTube and still attributed to the creator. SkipAds does not re-host, download, or redistribute anyone's videos.
Why won't some videos play?
Creators can choose not to let their videos play outside YouTube, and those cannot play here. That is their choice and SkipAds respects it. Age-restricted and region-locked videos may also be unavailable.
Where is my watch history stored?
In your own browser by default. Clear your browser data and it is gone. If you sign in, playlists and your subscription feed sync to your account so they follow you between devices.
Does SkipAds work on phones and smart TVs?
Yes. It runs in any modern browser, so it works on iPhone, iPad, Android, desktop and smart TV browsers without installing an app.
Does it cost anything?
No. SkipAds is free and carries no ads of its own. It is supported by voluntary donations through Buy Me a Coffee.
