How to watch YouTube without interruptions on Android
Android is more flexible than iOS here, because you can install software from outside the Play Store. That opens up options, but not all of them are equally sensible. Here is an honest look at each.
Option 1: Use a web player in your browser
The lowest-friction option, and the one that requires nothing to be installed or kept updated.
- In the YouTube app, tap Share, then Copy link.
- Open skipads.site in Chrome or your browser of choice.
- Paste the link and tap Watch Video.
Use your browser's Add to Home screen option and it launches like an app. Because it plays through YouTube's own player, views still count for the creator.
Option 2: An open-source client like NewPipe
NewPipe is a genuinely good open-source YouTube client for Android. It works without Google Play Services, supports offline downloads, and handles background playback at the system level.
The trade-off is installation: it is distributed as an APK through F-Droid or its own releases, so you are sideloading and updating manually. It also breaks periodically when YouTube changes things, and fixes arrive on the maintainers' schedule. We wrote a fuller comparison on our NewPipe alternative page.
Option 3: YouTube Premium
The official option. It covers the YouTube app itself, adds background playback and downloads, and pays creators a share of the subscription. If you watch heavily on your phone, it is the least fragile choice.
A word of caution on modified APKs
There is a whole category of modified YouTube clients circulating for Android. Be careful: you are granting an unvetted binary access to your device, and in many cases to your Google account. If you go this route, at minimum understand who builds it and where it comes from. A browser-based player avoids the question entirely.
